CHUM FOUNDATION GOLF CLASSIC RAISES $1.36 MILLION -- The Foundation’s fundraising drive goes the distance!

Montréal, September 10, 2009 – The Fondation du CHUM held its ninth annual Golf Classic benefit on September 8 at the prestigious Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club. Honorary co-chairs of the day on the fairways were Dr. Guy Leclerc, a well-known cardiologist and founder of the CHUM Cardiovascular Centre, and Marie-Berthe Des Groseillers, corporate secretary of the BMTC Group and chair of the Brault & Martineau Foundation. This year’s event helped raise $1,360,000 for the CHUM.

“Thanks to the generous contributions of its donors, the Fondation du CHUM is a major partner with the Quebec government. Given a policy of complementary public-private support, the foundation’s participation will be particularly important for the success of the CHUM modernization, a project with major public support that will give Quebec an innovative, ultra-modern 21st century hospital,” said Quebec Health and Social Services minister Dr. Yves Bolduc at the fundraiser’s evening events.

“We’ve succeeded in raising a very impressive sum despite the current economic context. We’re delighted that you’re still ready and willing to be generous, and that you remain loyal year after year,” Dr. Leclerc told his audience.

The Golf Classic is one of Canada’s largest healthcare benefit events in terms of funds raised  In all, some 280 golfers – doctors, hospital management and businesspeople, all deeply committed to the CHUM and its cause, joined the foundation’s official spokesperson, Yvon Deschamps, and his wife, Judi Richards, on the course to take part in this year’s event. Well-known sports commentator Claude Quennevillle was master of ceremonies for the evening.

Ékram Antoine Rabbat, president and director general of the foundation, thanked all the partners and participants who contributed to the fundraiser’s success, especially Abbott Vascular and the Brault & Martineau Foundation for their nonstop support. “We hope to see you all again at Laval-sur-le-Lac on September 13, 2010 for the tenth edition of our Golf Classic,” he said to the evening’s guests.
