Montreal, June 10, 2010 – The Fondation du Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) held its prestigious Annual Gourmet Dinner on June 9. The organization’s 12th dinner celebrated a “Pleasures of Bordeaux” theme in the lively atmosphere of the Parquet du Centre CDP Capital, bringing in the generous sum of $610,000.

The guests savoured the great vintages of Bordeaux and enjoyed a well-rounded menu of exquisite gourmet dishes in an extraordinary setting.

With the proud support of its partners and participants, the Fondation announced during the evening that the funds would be used to buy advanced medical equipment for the CHUM to improve the quality of patient care. The money will also help support the CHUM’s research, teaching and health promotion activities.

“2010 is an important year for us, with the groundbreaking of the new CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM),” said CHUM director general Christian Paire, emphasizing the importance of the project for the future of Montreal and the health of all Quebecers.

“Without your generous contributions, we would not be able to reach our new objectives and meet challenges as great as those facing the CHUM today,” said Luigi Liberatore, honorary chair of the event.

“The Fondation has an essential role to play in this project, one that will revolutionize the healthcare offer in Quebec, and because of this, there is an even greater need for support from the business community,” said Fondation du CHUM president and CEO Ékram Antoine Rabbat, who also extended thanks and gratitude to Luigi Liberatoire, honorary chair for the last five years, for his active participation, and to honorary co-chairs François Côté, executive vice-president and president, TELUS Québec and TELUS Health Solutions; Marie-Berthe Des Groseillers, Groupe BMTC corporate secretary and president of the Fondation Brault & Martineau; and Laurentian Bank president and CEO Réjean Robitaille.

The Fondation du CHUM also wishes to thank the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ) for supplying most of the wine at no charge.
