Going the extra mile to beat cancer: Ride along with Lance Armstrong

Montreal, June 25, 2010 - On September 11, 2010, fifty philanthropists will head to Mont-Tremblant to ride their bikes for the Tour de Lance des Cèdres being held under the theme “Going the extra mile to beat cancer.” The athletes will ride 100 km alongside 7-time Tour de France champion and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong to promote healthy living.

The event – organized by the Institut des Cèdres contre le cancer in collaboration with the Fondation du CHUM – will lend support to the two largest hospital centres in Quebec: the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). Both institutions will come together to help raise funds for the fight against two of today’s most serious illnesses: heart disease and cancer.

“The funds raised will enable us to get the latest diagnostic equipment, upgrade our treatment facilities and provide support to our patients and their families,” said Dr. Pierre Laramée, cardiologist, cyclist and Tour de Lance project coordinator for the CHUM.

Cancer survivor Luc Grisé, who now suffers from heart disease, encourages you to come cheer on those taking part in the race: “Not only will you be joining me and my fellow cyclists as we live out our dream of riding our bikes with Lance, you’ll be supporting two health-conscious causes, too.” Grisé is able to partipate in the 100 km race on September 11 thanks to the latest medical breakthroughs.

How can I participate in the event?

In order to take part in this very special day, each participant (individuals, company presidents, community organization members and so on) must donate a minimum amount of $25,000 by personal gift or through company sponsorship.

Sign up with the Fondation du CHUM today and be one of the lucky cyclists to ride with Lance! As soon as you’re registered, a resource person from the Institut des Cèdres will provide you with the right tools to help you raise funds.

If you can’t join us for the ride, you can still be a part of the event by supporting our cyclists with a donation. If you’d like to do so, either fill out the enclosed form or visit tourdelance.ca.
