As a fundraising organization for the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM), we securely collect, use and disclose personal information on a daily basis in order to deliver our services and carry out our work to provide information, solicit various types of contributions and encourage participation in events, webinars, raffles and lotteries. Your privacy is important to us, and so is being transparent about what kind of information we hold and how we obtain and use this information. We handle all information, especially personal information, in accordance with the highest ethical standards, such as Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Law 25 modernizing Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector.

The purpose of this Privacy Policy (the “Policy”) is to help you understand our practices for collecting, using, disclosing and retaining personal information. The CHUM Foundation may occasionally engage service providers that store data outside of Canada, such as email marketing and survey service providers. In such cases, the CHUM Foundation will perform a privacy impact assessment and/or request each service provider to provide their privacy policies. How do we protect personal information?

All personal information held by the CHUM Foundation is saved in folders reserved for internal use and, like the CHUM’s data, backed up to the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux’s computer network. We ensure that any information submitted to us is rigorously protected, both during transmission and once we receive it. We maintain appropriate physical, technical and administrative safeguards to protect personal information against accidental or unlawful destruction, accidental loss, unauthorized alteration, disclosure or access, misuse and any other unlawful form of processing of the personal information in our possession. We have taken steps to ensure that the only personnel who are granted access to your personal information are those with a business “need to know” or whose duties reasonably require such information. For credit/debit card donations to the CHUM Foundation, we ensure that transactions are secure and compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). No matter how robust and secure the various processes that the CHUM Foundation has put in place, there is always some degree of risk that personal information provided to us may be accessed, obtained, disclosed, altered or (in the case of electronic data) destroyed. While we strive to minimize this risk, we cannot completely ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit or provide to us, and you do so at your own risk. We also cannot guarantee that such information may not be accessed, obtained, disclosed, altered or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical or administrative safeguards.
