In the field of mental health, recent discoveries and new therapeutic modalities—for example, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy—are a source of hope for patients in whom conventional treatments have failed.
With your support, Drs. Nicolas Garel and Didier Jutras-Aswad are working to set up the centre for therapeutic innovation in psychiatry and associated disorders, an expertise and clinical research centre where these approaches will be studied and offered. Taking its place as a world leader, the centre will develop, assess and disseminate rigorous, effective, innovative treatment protocols. Its mission? To make new breakthroughs in the field of psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy at the international level, and pilot the adoption of these innovative therapeutic approaches in treatment settings.
“A mental illness is considered refractory when it develops chronically and recurs, and when a number of pharmacological and psychological treatments have failed. This often leads to years of incapacitation and devastating costs for sufferers, their families and society as a whole. New solutions are showing us light at the end of the tunnel and, thanks to your generosity, we will be able to accelerate their development and their judicious use throughout Québec and elsewhere in the world.”
– Dr. Didier Jutras-Aswad, head of the psychiatry department and research at the CHUM research Centre.
