Robot-assisted surgery allows complex operations to be carried out in ways that are less physically intrusive, leading to smaller incisions, quicker recovery times, fewer scars, less pain and shorter hospital stays. Canadian provinces have led the way in adopting robotic surgery, with the CHUM pioneering the field in Quebec.
Your donations will make it possible for the Robotic Center of Excellence (RCE) to pool the vital skills and knowledge required to set the guidelines for assessing robotic technology, provide training on the use of robotics, and coordinate the development of robotic technology within the wider healthcare system. The RCE will establish the CHUM as a premier training centre for operating room staff to learn the ins and outs of robot-assisted surgery. A telehealth program using robotic-assisted surgery is also planned to help assess potential patients in remote areas.
“Our team is working closely with a number of companies to create cutting-edge equipment. Our research projects will enable patients at the CHUM to receive treatments using new surgical robots years before they become available in other hospitals. Thank you for your invaluable support in helping us make great strides toward the future of medicine!”
