A RESEARCH FUND FOR CANCER

Guy Lafleur, one of the greatest hockey players in history, made a lasting impact on the hockey world and on the lives of everyone he met. Even after his passing, the Guy Lafleur Fund, bequeathed to us by Guy himself, is continuing his heartfelt mission to support all Quebecers who are affected by cancer.

In 2021, after Guy Lafleur was treated for cancer at the CHUM, he chose to join forces with the CHUM Foundation. The fund in Guy’s name was born from number 10’s deep, sincere desire to rally our community and bring hope to people who, like him, have had or will have a brush with cancer. In 2022, his son Martin became the ambassador of the Guy Lafleur Fund, driven by his sense of compassion and love for family.

“Cancer had a devastating impact on my family, just like many other families across Quebec. No one else should have to lose someone they love. In honour of my dad, join me and help us reach his goal of five million dollars.”

New Ambassadors are Joining Martin Lafleur

Guy Carbonneau, a professional hockey player for 20 years in the NHL, three-time Stanley Cup winner, and a 2019 inductee into the Hockey Hall of Fame, alongside his spouse Line Boivin, an HEC Montréal finance graduate, business founder, and manager.

Angelica Viapiano, a residential and commercial real estate broker with Remax Crystal and partner of Martin Lafleur.

Dary Laflamme, CEO of Boscus Canada Inc., and his wife Marlène Castonguay, who has worked in the healthcare field.

A New Ambitious Goal for the Guy Lafleur Fund

Thanks to the support of inspiring new ambassadors—men and women who rise to challenges and dare to dream big—the initial goal of the Guy Lafleur Fund has been doubled. These dedicated allies share a common vision: to provide CHUM teams with the means to push further and faster in the fight against cancer.

In the face of growing needs, the Fund now aims for an ambitious $10 million to support cancer research—a major milestone reflecting the scale of the challenges ahead and the hope for a healthier future for all.

The Personalized Medicine Program in Oncology
A Hopeful Project Made Possible by the Guy Lafleur Fund

The Personalized Medicine Program in Oncology focuses on the unique characteristics of each cancer to develop tailor-made therapeutic solutions. Rather than targeting the cancer’s location alone, as with chemotherapy, this program considers the specific traits of the cancer and the individual being treated.

With your support, clinical and fundamental research teams have made promising strides.

This program shifts from a universal approach to one that adapts treatments based on:

  • The unique characteristics of each cancer.
  • The specific needs of each patient.

Guy’s team needs you, and you still have time to join.
