iA Financial Group invests $700,000 to act faster than mental illness
One in three people will experience a mental illness in their lifetime, but current treatments are not always effective enough to treat every symptom. The CHUM Foundation is proud to be able to count on iA Financial Group’s invaluable support to empower the CHUM’s teams to act faster than mental illness.
Around 13% of the population will experience major depression at some point in their lifetime, while 3% will experience some form of psychotic episode. If left untreated or improperly managed, mental illness can cause unbearable suffering. Each year, Quebec mourns the loss of more than 1,000 people to suicide—the second-leading cause of death for individuals under 34. We are in more than dire need of a new course of treatment for patients with mental illness, as we now know that the earlier the intervention begins, the better a person’s chances of full remission.
Effective new treatments for mental illness
iA Financial Group’s generous $700,000 donation will go in part to help the CHUM’s teams complete projects to develop groundbreaking treatments for mental health disorders such as depression, psychosis and drug addiction. These funds are critical to keep driving innovation and ensure that the CHUM can continue to deploy tried-and-tested breakthrough methods all over Quebec.
“We understand how deeply mental health can affect people and their families, and we are determined to be part of the solution. This donation reflects our commitment to this worthy cause and fully aligns with iA Financial Group’s core values. By supporting the CHUM, we hope to help make our shared vision of a healthier society become a reality. Together, we can have an enduring, positive impact on mental health research and treatment.”

Committed for the long run
iA Financial Group, which invests in numerous causes in service to its commitment to building a healthier and happier Quebec, is no stranger to helping the CHUM’s teams. iA has been a loyal partner of the Foundation since 1995, when it helped establish the then-new CHUM through a major $1 million donation. More recently, it supported immunopathology research during the pandemic.
We are grateful to iA Financial Group for its generous philanthropy in giving the CHUM’s teams a head start on beating disease!
