A successful anniversary edition of Sugar Shack for Epilepsy
On Saturday, March 14, 2026, nearly 145 participants gathered at La Cabane du Coureur for the 10th edition of the Sugar Shack for Epilepsy event. This fundraiser, organized by the CHUM’s Neurology Department, raised an impressive $58,970.
The community came together in a warm and festive atmosphere to support research and innovation in epilepsy. This philanthropic tradition—now a highly anticipated annual gathering—reflects the remarkable commitment of donors, partners and supporters of the cause.
Accelerating progress in epilepsy
Funds raised during Sugar Shack for Epilepsy will help support pilot research projects led by CHUM teams, particularly those leveraging the power of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies.
Thanks to the generosity of participants, there will also be scholarship funding for the next generation of scientists, as well as expanded patient access to cutting-edge screening and treatment technologies such as:
- magnetoencephalography (MEG)
- tractography
- functional magnetic resonance imaging combined with EEG laser interstitial thermal therapy
These initiatives directly contribute to improving the diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for people living with epilepsy.
A community united around patients
“The Sugar Shack for Epilepsy fundraiser has become a special moment to rally patients, families, colleagues and partners around a shared cause. Seeing this community come together year after year is incredibly inspiring. This support allows us to continue pushing the boundaries of research and to offer our patients the best possible treatment options.”
Dr. Dang Khoa Nguyen, neurologist at CHUM and founder of the event
The CHUM Foundation extends its warmest thanks to the CHUM Epilepsy Group, Gold Partner Knight, who helped make the event possible, and everyone who contributed to the success of this 10th edition.
