Play soccer to beat cancer!

On April 27, the soccer fields at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) played host to the “Play soccer to beat cancer!” tournament, organized by the cancer surgeons at the Centre intégré de cancérologie du CHUM (CICC).

Ten teams showed up for the second edition of this friendly soccer tournament benefitting Fondation Virage and the CHUM Foundation, all of them ready to leave it all on the field to support oncology research and make a difference in the lives of cancer patients. The teams faced off in fun, relaxed matches as crowds of family and friends cheered them on, doing their part to help build a healthier future too.

A community dedicated to the CHUM

The CICC teams pitched in, with the staunch support of their loved ones, and in total nearly a hundred folks came out for this incredible initiative. Together, they scored over $30,000 to support oncology research projects at the CHUM Research Centre and cancer patient support by the Fondation Virage.

“The CICC is one big family, and mutual support is close to our hearts. We know that if we want to implement practical initiatives for our patients, we need funding. That’s why we felt it was important to host the soccer tournament for the second year in a row. This fundraiser will help us continue making a difference in the lives of our patients and give them a better future.”

Fundraisers organized by the CHUM community play a key role in medical breakthroughs. They are proof that collaboration and mutual support can amplify the impact of philanthropy. Most importantly, these fundraisers let the CHUM get a head start on beating disease. That’s why we are so grateful to the teams, volunteers and donors that took part in this fundraiser. Together, we have the power to act faster than cancer!
