“I’m proud of what I did to support research for all those who, like my sister and brother, are affected by cancer.”
The Guy Lafleur Fund: When passion becomes compassion
Pierre Grenon’s passion for classic cars drove him to take on an ambitious project: restoring an exact replica of the 1971 Buick Riviera given to Guy Lafleur, the Quebec hockey legend known to many as “Le démon blond.” Grenon’s project took an even more personal turn when his sister Marjoleine was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer, which had already claimed the life of their brother Jean Louis at the age of 42.
Faced with this heartbreaking news, Grenon decided to transform his passion into compassion. He organized a raffle where entrants could win a one-of-a-kind replica of the Buick Riviera, with the proceeds going to cancer research. Through his efforts and the generosity of all the entrants, 1,623 tickets were sold, raising an impressive $243,450.
A major impact on the Guy Lafleur Fund
A portion of the money raised will be given to the Guy Lafleur Fund, which funds cancer research and crucial breakthroughs in the fight against a disease that affects so many families, including Pierre Grenon’s.
“I’m proud of what I did to support research for all those who, like my sister and brother, are affected by cancer.” says Grenon, the personification of compassion and resilience.
A heartwarming initiative for all Quebecers
Pierre Grenon’s fundraising idea struck a chord with Quebecers, who are not only united in their admiration for the démon blond, but are also deeply grateful for initiatives that support cancer research. This raffle paid tribute to a great man while giving real hope to cancer patients.
An extraordinary car for better health
Whether or not they won the treasure on wheels, entrants in the raffle, which concluded on May 5, 2024, were proud to support a healthier future for all.
The 1971 Buick Riviera, painted in the colours of the Québec Remparts, was more than just a classic car. It symbolized one community’s determination to rally around the collective goal of fighting cancer.
