A RESEARCH FUND FOR CANCER

Guy Lafleur, one of the greatest hockey players in history, faced the greatest battle of his life; his fight against cancer. From his very first treatments at the CHUM, it was the support of the oncology department that helped him get through difficult times and keep hope through the process. Aware that we are stronger as a team, Guy Lafleur joined the CHUM Foundation as an ambassador and launched his campaign to raise funds for cancer research.

Guy Lafleur’s son Martin is driven by his love for family and for humanity. He has chosen to carry on his father’s work as the new ambassador for the CHUM Foundation’s Guy Lafleur Fund.

Martin Lafleur et son père Guy Lafleur

“Hockey fans lost a legendary player, but I lost my dad, and my daughter lost her grandpa. Cancer had a devastating impact on my family, just like many other families across Quebec. That’s why it’s only natural for me to carry the torch in honour of my father and continue this work that was so important to him.“

Guy Lafleur was not alone in this fight: he was fortunate to have a medical team ready to take on the biggest challenges! Donations made in honor of Guy Lafleur will contribute to cancer research priorities at the CHUM, a cause close to Mr. Lafleur’s heart. Clinicians, researchers and epidemiologists work as a team at the CHUM under the direction of Réjean Lapointe, head of cancer research.
