“I never would have guessed when we first held the Sugar shack for epilepsy in 2017 that this family event would become a tradition. Each year, folks are so happy to gather and enjoy a delicious sugar shack supper for a good cause. Our generous donors and sponsors make it possible for us to conduct promising research, move the scientific needle forward and provide our patients with the very best. I am thrilled to be a part of this event. It has meant the world to me these past eight years.”
Dang Khoa Nguyen, head of the CHUM’s neurology unit
The aim of the Sugar shack for epilepsy is to raise funds that will give patients access to new investigation techniques like magnetoencephalography, tractography and simultaneous EEG‑fMRI. Your donation will also help finance research grants for students and pilot projects in epilepsy research, including seizure prediction and detection using smart devices and artificial intelligence.
Thanks to generous donors like you, the CHUM Epilepsy Group was able to make a major contribution to the purchase of laser technology for minimally invasive treatment of epileptic foci. In 2023, a patient with treatment-resistant epilepsy received laser interstitial thermal ablation of his epileptic focus—a first at the CHUM. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts!
