The CHUM Foundation and Martin Lafleur are joining forces to launch the Together Against Cancer campaign to support cancer research and bring hope to patients and their loved ones. All donations will go to the Guy Lafleur Fund and help enable the CHUM Research Centre’s teams to roll out a program for personalized medicine in oncology. This innovative program aims to revolutionize cancer patient care by tailoring treatment and care to each individual, increasing their chances of recovery.
The Together Against Cancer campaign
In March 2021, Guy Lafleur, the renowned #10 of the Montréal Canadiens and one of the greatest hockey players of all time, created a fund in his name to support the CHUM. Our hospital provided Guy with exceptional care and treatment in his battle with cancer. He gave wholeheartedly to the CHUM Foundation because he wanted to make a real difference for future generations. Today, his son Martin is continuing what his father began and rallying people with the Together Against Cancer campaign.
“Hockey fans lost a legendary player, but I lost my dad, and my daughter lost her grandpa. Cancer had a devastating impact on my family, just like many other families across Quebec. That’s why it’s only natural for me to carry the torch in honour of my father and continue this work that was so important to him,” explained Martin Lafleur, the star player’s son and ambassador for the Guy Lafleur Fund.
Give to the Guy Lafleur Fund: Every donation counts
The personalized medicine in oncology program that the Guy Lafleur Fund supports will revolutionize cancer patient care and develop innovative new treatments. Personalized medicine means that treatments can be tailored to a patient’s genes and the genetic and molecular profile of the cancer.
According to Pascale Bouchard, President and Chief Executive Officer of the CHUM Foundation, “Half of all Quebecers will be affected by cancer in their lifetime. It’s time to stop losing our loved ones. By supporting cancer research through the Guy Lafleur Fund, you help improve your chances of being able to spend more precious time with your friends and family. Donations will be used to roll out a program for personalized medicine in oncology, helping researchers, epidemiologists and clinicians work as a team to fight cancer.”
