The CHUM Foundation brings together a community of donors who are committed to the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) and its centres of expertise.
Behind every act of incredible generosity lies a long history of genuine commitment, an innovative vision and shared values of a healthier, fairer and more inclusive future. It is in this spirit that the Foundation would like to tip its hat to its faithful charitable partner, RBC Royal Bank, for the bank’s contribution to the Centre d’expertise et de collaboration en troubles concomitants (CECTC).

The CECTC, leveraging scientific collaboration to provide more compassionate care for more people
The CECTC brings together the brightest minds working on the medical and psychosocial aspects of concurrent disorders (simultaneous issues of addiction and mental health) in order to tackle barriers to accessing advanced medical services and offer Quebecers services and care that is tailored to concurrent substance use and mental disorders.
The Centre strives to empower institutions and teams to implement best practices for intervention, management and care in order to transform service accessibility. Because the first step to improving practices is making information widely available.
A centre of expertise with provincial reach
The CECTC and its teams were only able to implement their innovative strategy and aid thousands of youth over the past year thanks to the contribution of RBC Royal Bank and its groundbreaking efforts outside of urban areas, where accessing care can be a major challenge. RBC is not only dedicated to supporting trailblazing projects to improve existing health and mental health services, but also wants to make such services available to everyone, no matter where they live, who they are or where they come from.
“We know that 75% of mental health disorders are diagnosed between the ages of 16 and 25, and that only one in five youth with a mental health disorder have access to the care they need.Youth deserve ready access to high-quality mental health support services, as well as an integrated system that is easy to navigate and whose professionals understand the issues. We are proud to support initiatives from the CHUM and CECTC through RBC Future Launch and hope that we can make a difference in improving the support and mental healthcare offered to young Quebecers and their families.”
Nadine Renaud-Tinker, President of RBC’s Quebec Headquarters
The CECTC’s initiatives not only reach and engage large numbers of professionals all across Quebec, they train them on how to better treat such disorders and lessen their impact on young patients and their loved ones.
Some of the initiatives spearheaded by the CECTC’s specialists and made possible thanks to the generosity of RBC Royal Bank include:
- The ECHO® CHUM Troubles Concomitant telementoring program, which brings together over 250 clinicians, 30 healthcare institutions, numerous partners and interdisciplinary teams from across the provincial and community system who work with youth struggling with concurrent disorders
- A consulting service offered to healthcare and social services institutions in Quebec, as well as community organizations
- Scientific advice tackling issues of how services are organized or factors that impact how concurrent disorders are treated
- An annual scientific activity, a must-attend for people working in the field where promising new solutions begin to take root each year
The CECTC encourages people to share their knowledge and expertise to improve practices and offer specific, concrete intervention solutions for support and for personalized treatment that is tailored to each patient’s profile and needs.
This project opens up new possibilities for people struggling with concurrent mental health disorders.
Over 25 years of support for the CHUM and the CHUM Foundation
Way back when the CHUM Foundation was founded in 1998, RBC Royal Bank was already one of the major drivers of transformation in healthcare.
The bank’s first donation to the CHUM was in 1984, at a time when the internationally renowned teaching hospital that we all know today was a mere idea. RBC’s time-tested support in shaping the present and future of medicine—from helping build the new CHUM to funding innovative projects—has made the bank a key supporter of the CHUM and its teams, helping them act faster than disease and minimize the side effects of treatments so that they can heal and save even more Quebecers.
This charitable partnership shows how generosity and mutual support can achieve great things for communities in need and society as a whole. Nadine Renaud-Tinker will also be the honorary co-chair of our third-ever Grand Banquet de l’extraordinaire. The CHUM Foundation would like to sincerely thank RBC Royal Bank for its vision and its commitment to the prosperity and well-being of our communities.
