500,000 thousand to propel precision oncology - Fondation du CHUM

The CHUM Foundation is pleased to announce that it has joined forces with the Montreal Cancer Institute to fight cancer and develop innovative treatments for patients.

The Institute is making a generous $500,000 donation to the CHUM Foundation’s Guy Lafleur Fund for cancer research. This money will help the CHUM Research Centre’s teams deliver on their ambitious goals of making major breakthroughs in precision oncology that can one day beat disease.

“The Institut du cancer de Montréal, founded 75 years ago, boasts a team of over thirty researchers who continually strive for excellence and work with their teams to beat cancer. It was only natural that we would join forces with the CHUM Foundation to support this promising revolutionary project. We are confident that together, along with our valued donors, we can make a big difference in the future of cancer treatment.”

Promising projects for people affected by this disease

This major donation will be key to the creation of a support program and will financially contribute to innovate projects in personalized medicine that bring hope to the thousands of people affected by cancer.

The program will be led by Ph.D. Réjean Lapointe and will encourage collaboration between clinical and fundamental research teams, enabling them to leverage their complementary strengths and expertise to glean further insights into complex results and data.

“This program, made possible by the Guy Lafleur Fund for cancer research, is set to open up new avenues for developing vaccines and treatments to treat cancer patients that were once thought to be impossible.”

This charitable support is an opportunity to showcase the kind of impact that’s possible when two organizations get behind a single bold vision and act in unison for the future of healthcare and future generations.

“We know that cancer is the leading cause of death in Canada, and with two in five people being diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, it’s imperative for us to join forces and combine our efforts. I am incredibly proud of this innovative partnership inspired by the Guy Lafleur Fund, which will help cancer research have even more of an impact, to the benefit of patients at the CHUM and all across Quebec.”

A fund to revolutionize cancer treatments

The Guy Lafleur Fund was founded by the late Guy Lafleur to raise funds for cancer research and develop precision oncology. Personalized (or precision) medicine is a real source of hope for thousands of patients who, like The Flower, are facing or will face cancer. It helps revolutionize treatment of their disease by tailoring care and treatment to each individual.
